Tribal Colleges and Universities #RealCollege Survey Report

This report describes the results of the #RealCollege survey administered in the fall of 2019 at
seven tribal colleges and universities (TCUs), a subset of the 227 two- and four-year institutions
surveyed across the United States.
In 2019, approximately 1,050 students from seven tribal colleges and universities (TCUs)
responded to the #RealCollege survey. The results indicate:
• 62% of respondents were food insecure in the prior 30 days
• 69% of respondents were housing insecure in the previous year
• 30% of respondents were homeless in the previous year
These rates are substantially higher than those observed for other types of institutions; the Hope
Center reports that 39% of national participants experience food insecurity, 46% experience
housing insecurity, and 17% experience homelessness.
