Improving Utilization of Non – Tuition Supports to Promote Community College Retention and Completion

Can text-based nudges encourage community college students to use existing non-tuition supports to improve their well-being and academic success?

This project examines this question at Dallas College, where students will receive timely and relevant information about non-tuition supports, including emergency aid, public benefits, financial aid, and campus food and housing. Using a randomized controlled trial and multiple approaches to messaging, including efforts to address stigma and empower students, will help identify the most effective ways for practitioners to communicate about students.

This project is supported by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) College Completion Network. Partners include Dallas College, Signal Vine, and Stanford professors Greg Walton and Eric Bettinger.
